Expawers (“we”, “us”) operates expawers.com and provides dog hiking, training, and boarding services in New York City. This page explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep it in plain English because that is how we would want it explained to us.
Who we are
Expawers is the data controller for information collected through this website. This site also hosts pages for the Expawers Ranch Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity. You can reach us about anything privacy related at DogHikes@Expawers.com.
What we collect and why
Inquiry form
When you fill out our new client inquiry form, we collect your name, email address, phone number, neighborhood, and the details you share about your dog (name, breed, age, weight, vaccination status, behavior, and anything you add in the notes field). We use this information for one purpose: to respond to your inquiry and match you with the right service. Your submission is delivered to our team by email and a confirmation copy is sent to you. We do not store form submissions in a website database, and we never sell or rent your information.
If you email us directly, we keep the correspondence for as long as we need it to help you and to run our business.
Donations
Donations to the Expawers Ranch Foundation are processed by Give Lively, a third-party donation platform, together with its payment processors. We never see or store your card details. Give Lively shares donor contact information with us so the Foundation can send receipts and acknowledgments. Give Lively’s own privacy policy is at givelively.org/privacy.
Client portal
Active clients use Time To Pet, a separate pet care management service, for scheduling and account management. Information you enter there is governed by Time To Pet’s privacy policy at timetopet.com/privacy.
Cookies and analytics
We use exactly one first-party cookie by default: exp_cookie_consent, which remembers the cookie choice you make in our banner for one year. That is it.
If, and only if, you opt in through the cookie banner, we enable Jetpack Stats, a visitor counting tool operated by Automattic (the company behind WordPress.com, which hosts this site). It tells us which pages people visit so we can improve the site. If you click Reject All, or simply ignore the banner, it never loads. We use no advertising or marketing cookies of any kind. You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie Settings link in the footer.
Who handles your data for us
We use a small number of service providers, each bound by their own privacy commitments:
- Automattic / WordPress.com: hosts this website, serves images through its content delivery network, filters spam with Akismet, and operates Jetpack Stats (only with your consent).
- Give Lively: processes donations on the Foundation donate page only.
- Time To Pet: manages client scheduling and accounts for active clients.
These providers may store data on servers in the United States.
How long we keep things
Inquiry emails are kept for as long as we need them to respond and, if you become a client, to provide our services. If you never become a client, or you ask us to, we delete them. Email us at DogHikes@Expawers.com and we will remove your information promptly.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights over your personal information, including the right to know what we hold about you, to correct it, to receive a copy of it, to object to certain processing, to withdraw consent, and to ask us to delete it. We honor these requests for everyone, regardless of where you live. To exercise any of them, email DogHikes@Expawers.com. If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Our website and services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and revise the effective date at the top. Significant changes will be flagged on the site.
